Common Garage Door Repair Problems

• Broken Springs:

Garage door springs can only be opened and closed a limited number of times. If you are at home, you will notice when the springs break.

Garage doors can spring up, sounding almost like fireworks. It is dangerous to open or close the garage doors at this stage. The spring could still be stretched and cause the door to slip from its rails.

Do not attempt to open your garage door if the spring is broken. Garage door repairs can be scheduled by calling us now. It is important that you do not go into your garage without having it repaired.

• Cables

Cables can break due to wear and tear or when springs fail. If a cable has been damaged, one side of a door may appear "sagging". This site may seem heavier.

The door may be slightly slanted to one side, and lower on the other side when it opens. The door may not stay in its original position if all cables have been damaged. The door will then fall to the ground as soon as it's lifted up. This is a dangerous safety hazard.

• Rollers should turn and spin:

The rollers on the doors' sides must turn and spin. If the rollers get stuck during sliding, the door may fall off its rails. If the rollers are stuck, it can make it more difficult to open and close the door.

It is best to leave the door in its original position if it has fallen from its rails. If you try to open or close the cables or springs, they could break. If the door is making a loud sound, it should be cleaned and replaced. Insufficient lubrication and excessive humidity can cause jammed rollers.

• Door Closures and Reopens

This can happen when the garage door opener needs to be adjusted. The garage door limit settings regulate the open and closing functions. Normal use may require minor adjustments or resynchronization.

Limit settings allow the door to limit how far it can move before it can close or open fully. You can disable these settings so that the sensors interpret hitting the ground with something. The door will then open again.

If something is directly in front of the sensors, this can be an issue. Near the bottom of each door will be the sensors. These sensors are approximately four to six inches above the ground. If there is anything in the way, these sensors will allow you to open your door.

• The Door Opener Is Running, but the Door Doesn’t Move:

By opening and closing the door, you can verify that the disconnect cord to the automatic door opener is not pulled. If you're able, reconnect the door to the left arm to your automatic opener. Another common problem is this. This is another problem.
